Wanlockhead is located on the Southern Upland Way with some fabulous walks in the area. When there is snow on the ground there are some great places to ski and sledge all around.
A drive down the Mennock Pass will take your breath away as you wind your way down towards the A76 which leads you south to Dumfries and beyond or north to Sanquhar and Ayr.
The Wanlockhead Museum of Lead Mining is well worth a visit and offers a trip down a real lead mine. There are many spots to try your hand at gold panning and lessons are available at the Museum.
